SEACOM, a major pan-African service provider of resilient and scalable data services, took CIOs through the status of digital transformation in Africa highlighting the importance to their businesses.
The conversation took place during the 7th annual CIO Awards Symposium and Awards where Patrick Ndegwa, SEACOM Business Sales Lead, informed the audience that, SEACOM launched Africa’s first broadband submarine cable system along the eastern and southern coastlines in 2009, bringing with it a vast supply of high quality and affordable Internet bandwidth enabling digital transformation in organisations.
“Our full ring around Africa builds-in redundancy so that the ecosystems CIOs are setting up, as they migrate their users to digital platforms, are always on and always available,” said Ndegwa.
Internet and Cloud services are transforming IT
According to Ndegwa, “communication is no longer talking to the person on the other side of the phone line; the internet and cloud are changing this. However, without a reliable and high-speed connection none of this can be realised.”
It is with such reliable internet connections that Public Cloud providers such as SEACOM, Microsoft, Amazon and Salesforce, enable business transformation through scalability, reliability, flexibility and cost savings.
CIOs and their IT teams are the links between business and technology in this digital era and are thus at an advantage when they are aware of the solutions to implement in order to ease the transformation for their organisations.
