We think the Huawei Y8p may just be worth it's weight in Kshs.

Feeling silky and handy, yet possessing a weight in your palm, is Huawei’s silently launched Y series, the HUAWEI Y8p. As is the case with most smartphones today, Y8p targets Kenya’s mid-range mobile smartphones at the competitive price of Kshs 24,999.

It is more of a rebranded version of the Huawei Enjoy 10s that launched in October 2019. This makes it feel like a repetition when we talk about mid-range phone design. It is what we assume any mid-range smartphone looks like. However, it is its build that separates it from the rest.

Inspired by the beautiful contrast of light and shadow, the HUAWEI Y8p dazzles with elegant colours aptly named Breathing Crystal and Midnight Black. The 3D curved edges fit perfectly against the sleek, ultra-light body to deliver extra comfort.

With the 90.17 per cent screen-to-body ratio and 2400 x 1080 ultra-clear resolution, the 6.3” OLED Dewdrop Display provides a remarkable visual experience and cinematic colour gamut.2 Both bright and dark details are incredibly sharp and vivid when watching videos, playing games or browsing images.

In-Display Fingerprint

With the advanced In-Display Fingerprint technology, the unlock speed and success rate of HUAWEI Y8p is much improved. This is a fantastic feature. It works effortlessly when you are awakening the device or providing payment. Whenever you touch your phone, the screen lights up a fingerprint LED at the bottom of the screen where you just place your finger and voila! That simple. The feeling is magical.

The cameras will give you three-fold clarity.

AI Triple Camera

The AI triple cameras each perform their functions. The 48 MP ultra-clear primary lens, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and 2MP depth lens, assist you in exploring the mysterious nature or recording your daily life through a simple snap. This gives you a crystal-clear picture amazingly detailed even as you zoom into the wide taken shot.

It offers a 2MP Depth Camera, a 48MP Main Camera, an 8MP Ultra-Wide-Angle Camera and a 48MP Super Clear Camera. The super high-resolution 48MP primary lens further enhances your photos, making them sharper and more precise, making every shot more realistic with fine details, even in low-light conditions.

120° Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens allows you to capture awesome photos of magnificent architecture, landscape, or take a stunning group photo all in one frame. Now the 120° wide range of possibilities can be held comfortably by the help of the 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens.

The Y8p has the 1xUltra-Wide Angle Super Night Mode. The AIS (Artificial Image Stabilisation) Handheld Night Mode with a maximum exposure time of 6 seconds3 allows you to catch the bright and beautiful night shots easily. While the AI algorithm applies to your images effectively helping you get the best possible photo in the dark or at night.

Super Sensing Camera. This camera is equipped with the HUAWEI Super Spectrum Sensor, which makes it capable of receiving greater light input, so every fine detail in the night shots can be captured with precise clarity.

Large Storage and speed, 6 GB + 128 GB

The 6GB RAM effectively allows you to run multiple apps simultaneously and switch between them fluently. At the same time, the 128GB ROM brings you ample storage for all your favourite videos, photos and games. The storage can be expanded up to a whopping 256GB.

4000 mAh Battery

Powered by the 4000mAh large battery, HUAWEI’s Y8p can support video playback, music playing or web surfing for a long time. This gives you a daily relaxed stress-free enjoyment with no need of a power bank.

GPU Turbo 3.0, Enhanced Performance

With the newly upgraded GPU Turbo 3.0, it covers 20+ popular games, and the SoC (System-on-Chips) power consumption is efficiently reduced by 10 per cent. At the same time, the underlying system performance is greatly optimised, providing a continuous, immersive gaming experience. I tried playing Asphalt 9. I can confidently say it was fun. No hiccups, smooth all through.

EMUI 10.1, Smart Collage

The collage feature allows you to put 2 to 9 pictures in one frame without any third-party applications. Collaborating with the smart algorithm, the images can be set to the optimal grid position according to its size. Show your friends the amazing scenery and clear selfies in one picture effortlessly.
