Huawei looks into doubling up its market share through introduction of two smartphones

Huawei has announced the introduction of two entry level smartphones, Y5C and Y360, into the local market as it strives to double its current mobile market share by June 2016. The company’s market share stands at 10 percent and is looking to increase it to between 20 – 25 percent come next year June.

To achieve the envisaged growth, Huawei will be betting not only on the introduction of its flagship products but also middle and low-cost but quality mobile devices. The firm is also embracing partnership with more independent retailers across the country to increase its market share.

Making the announcement, Huawei Devices, Kenya Country Director Mark Hemaobin said the company was keen on capturing all market segments and will be looking to introducing both low end, middle and premium devices in line with the changing consumer preferences.

“Our deliberate approach is not only to offer quality and affordable entry-level devices like Huawei Y5C and Y360 but also high end ones like Mate S and Huawei P8 where we introduce the greatest innovation and provide full compatibility with the android,” he added.

The Huawei Y360 smart phone which has been retailing at Kshs7,999 is now on promotional offer at Kshs5,499 + 500 MB free Safaricom data bundles at all authorized Safaricom retail shops and Safaricom authorized dealers. It comes with a 4.00-inch touch-screen display with a resolution of 480 pixels by 800 pixels. The device is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core and it comes with 512MB of RAM. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Huawei Y360 packs a 5-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 2-megapixel front shooter for selfies. It also runs on Android 4.4.4 and is powered by a 1730mAh removable battery.

The Huawei Y360 is a single SIM (GSM) smartphone that accepts a regular SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS. Sensors on the phone include Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, and Gyroscope.

The Huawei Y5C on the other hand comes with medium-sized vibrant 4.5-inch display. It runs on 1.2 GHz Quad-core processor along with 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM. It has an 8MP rear and 2MP front camera. The Y5C comes with a 1730 mAh battery and supports dual SIM. The phone will be retailing at Kshs 9,899.

The two devices will be retailing at Safaricom shops and other authorized retail outlets countrywide.
