Orange San Francisco: 2011 Phone of the year Dennis Mbuvi
The Orange San Francisco has been available in Orange shops for most of the year, from somewhere in the first quarter, and I have owned one since June 2011.
The phone is a smart phone custom made for France Telekom's Orange franchise and is available in most countries where Orange operates. At KSh 12,355 and later KShs 12,299, it's also been Orange's most affordable smartphone in Kenya before the recent introduction of the Huawei Gaga .
The Phone
The phone comes loaded with a custom version of Android 2.1 spotting Orange branding, colours and a host of Orange apps , which you will mostly not need. Also notable is that Orange has opted to remove Google Talk Instant Messaging, though tech-savvy users can find the software on the Internet and install it on the device.
Tech-savvy users will also find that they can easily upgrade the phone's software to the later Android 2.2 and Android 2.3. Upgrading the phone's operating system through rids you of your Orange warranty (which was about 3 months, not much), while notable benefit is the ability to use your phone as an Internet modem , a feature not available in the Orange software.
