Romanian bank awarded for Western Union ATM integration CIO East Africa Writer

BPC Banking Technologies has announced the winner of the 2011 BPC Transformation Award. BPC conveyed top honors to Banca Transilvania, Romania for an initiative through which the Bank provided a first-of-a-kind customer service by supporting Western Union money transfers through the Bank's ATM network.

The BPC Transformation Awards seek to recognize and honor the creative spirit and remarkable accomplishments of our clients. These annual awards pay tribute to the most transformational uses of BPC technology to enhance the customer experience and advance the overall market position of our clients.
BPC also recognized two further clients with runners up awards. National Reserve Bank, Russia received its award for an implementation of a complete in house processing system. The project was completed inside five months and has delivered a marked improvement in customer service at a significantly reduced TCO.

The second runner up was QIWI Bank, Russia for a project to implement the issuance of virtual and plastic Visa cards used in conjunction with the QIWI Purse. This new service greatly extended the functionality of the Purse allowing QIWI customers to make purchases anywhere Visa is accepted in the real and on-line worlds.

Banca Transilvania has ambitious plans for the growth of both its issuing and acquiring card business. One of the Bank's key objectives is to innovate and improve the technology which can support the business. The Western Union ATM implementation was the first project of this type in the world. It has delivered a greatly improved service for Western Union clients including transaction speed and simplicity and availability over 24/7.

Banca Transilvania has used SmartVista to enhance the operational efficiency of its payments business which in turn has improved profitability. Additionally, the Bank has introduced a range of innovative products, including loyalty programs and SMS alerts. Banca Transilvania, already number three in the Romanian card industry has been one of the most dynamic banks in this area, receiving three times in the last four years the Romanian award for "The Bank of the Year in the Cards Business"- the latest, this year, for the activity of 2010.
