Catherine Kilonzo, a fourth year  student at the University of Nairobi, has today won herself Ksh.1 million from the on- going ‘Furahi na Safaricom’ .

She was awarded the one million cheque alongside other winners who included Francis Mwanzi (teacher in Muhoroni), Joel Akama (Businessman in Kisumu), Janet limo (pharmacist in Eldoret) and Rekero camp limited in Maasai Mara.

Kilonzo said the money was going to help her in setting up a new business venture after she finalizes her studies at the university:

“I thank Safaricom for this amount of money since I have been trying to apply for loans in the various banks but I did not succeed. I needed like Ksh.500, 000 to set my business but most of loan applications were declined. And now I’m happy I do have capital to kick off my business after school.

Awarding the winners at the Safaricom headquarters, Bob Collymore, Safaricom CEO said the promotion was a Christmas gift to the company’s over 18million subscribers:

“We’ve presented cheques to 10 millionaires in the last two weeks and today we are presenting other 5 winners with 1 million cheques each and we thank all our dear subscribers for their participation as we look forward to more Kenyans millionaires. Remember, the key to winning is topping up with airtime and talking to your friends and family this festive season.”

The promotion which began last month is expected to close down next week with more Kenyans expected to be rewarded at the end of the promotion.
