Orange CEO , Mickael Ghossein says rates remain unchanged despite Safaricom raising their rates

Telkom Kenya on Wednesday confirmed that it will maintain its existing local calling rates at Kes 2 for on net calls and Kes 4 for off net calls.
In a press release issued, Telkom Kenya CEO Mickael Ghossein also announced that its promotion dubbed Usinyamaze revamped is now a permanent tariff that will enable Orange mobile customers to continue to make free on net calls between 10 am to 5 pm as well as calls at Kes 1 from 5 pm to 10 am, for a monthly flat rate of Kes 100.
For its Orange Wireless customers, the tariff remains at Kes 2 for on net calls and Kes 4 off net, while for a KSh 100 monthly subscription they will continue to enjoy free calls from 7 pm to 7 am.

"In view of the current regulatory environment and existing market dynamics, Orange wishes to confirm its decision to maintain its existing local tariffs. In addition, we continue to closely monitor the FOREX rates and are in consultation with international mobile telecommunication operators in order to mitigate any possible effect the current performance of the shilling could have on our international calling rates," Ghossein added.

The CEO further affirmed the company's continued focus towards enhanced customer care and improved network coverage to suit the growing demand for its services in the country.

"Our unique offers have continuously set us apart from the competition, with the ongoing network upgrade and increased customer focus, we are confident that we will continue growing our customer base in the coming months," said Michael Ghossein.

The latest Quarterly Statistics Report released by the industry regulator, the Communications Commission of Kenya, shows that Orange had registered a positive gain in its subscriber numbers. The company's share grew to 10.7 per cent by June 2011 as compared to 8.5 per cent at the close of 2010.
