Orange Uganda has started implementing the High Definition voice services on its country wide 3G network. In a press release dated 7th July 2011, the company went ahead to tout this as the first Sub-Saharan deployment of HD Voice and the second in Africa.HD voice or Wideband Audio is the next generation of voice quality for audio telephony. It provides deeper clarity and a better audio experience. When comparing HD Voice and traditional telephony audio, the difference is very distinct and clear. Its inbuilt voice reduction technology cuts out unnecessary noise on either line of the conversation thus reducing background noise typical of normal mobile calls. This guarantees HD voice calls to be crystal clear.

The feel good effect HD Voice gives callers is likely to improve consumer satisfaction levels and hence setting the stage for a new frontier along which Telecoms service providers are likely to compete.
To enjoy the benefits of this service, a user needs to have an HD Voice or 3G+ enabled phone.
