Nokia has officially launched its multimedia handset-N97 in East Africa. The phone was launched yesterday in Nairobi, Kenya. The Nokia N97 is Nokia’s first device to feature a personalisable home screen, which can be customised with a range of widgets which bring live information directly to the device.

The phone has the ability to personalise your homescreen, add more content and fully customise your layout with your favourite live feeds, mini views and services. You can also connect quickly with the touch and the QWERTY that will enable you browse the web, navigate with touch and message your friends faster. It has a capacity of 32 GB on its media platform which is on a brilliant 3.5” widescreen that helps one indulge in videos, music and pictures

Through the Ovi Store you can download applications, games, videos and widgets direct to your device. Fast Internet access makes sharing photos and videos easy – they can be uploaded through Ovi Share. You can view real web pages on the beautiful 16:9 sliding tilt display – with Flash support for Internet videos. At the same time you can use touch control and the full keyboard to surf the web straight from the 3.5”screen Access content directly from the customisable homescreen.

To explore the cities of the world with Maps, A-GPS and multimedia city guides has been installed on the phone-one can use the Walk pedestrian navigation to find his way and also use the built-in compass keep you pointing in the right direction – the map adapts to point the same way you do. One can also use voice guided Drive navigation to find the best route.

N97 has the Carl Zeiss optics and 5 megapixel camera to take great photos of the places you visit -Capture the moment, day or night, with the dual LED flash. It has largest storage capacity (32 GB) to take your photos with you. Upload your photos to Ovi Share and share them online.

It has an email functionality that is accessible on the fingertips -on the 3.5” touch screen. Easy to set up as- connects via Gmail, Ovi Mail and Mail for Exchange. One can also use the full keyboard to type messages quickly and easily.
