Kenyans will for the first time send and receive money across all networks with or without a mobile phone. This is a new mobile transfer service named 'TANGAZA' launched by Mobile Pay Limited. Users of the new service only require their finger print, user photo and ID details registration to be able to transact.
Speaking at the launch yesterday, the Governor of Central Bank of Kenya, Prof.Njuguna Ndung’u said that TANGAZA has read the gap in the market and also in the practicalities of technological platforms provided by advancement of technology.
“It is very important that investors make use of practical ideas to facilitate access to financial services to a large section of the un-banked population,” said Prof. Ndung’u.
Prof Ndung’u added that services such as TANGAZA will offer a convenience that is not available in any other consumer channel as well as security, convenience and is cost effective, while the business is conducted in a non threatening environment.
“The Central Bank welcomes innovative products such as TANGAZA and we evaluate them to ensure that they are safe and efficient. We have the necessary capacity to properly evaluate and appraise technology driven financial services to ensure they meet our standards,” said Prof Ndung’u.
Mobile Pay Managing Director, Oscar Ikinu said that TANZAGA is a secure and affordable way for all mobile phone subscribers to send money, buy airtime and pay bills using their mobile phone.
“TANGAZA has the best security features." He further added that whether users have their mobile phones or not, they can still receive and send money through a network of agents in their country.
Uniquely, the TANGAZA service operates across all the existing mobile phone networks, meaning mobile phone users can register their sim cards for the service irrespective of their network.Users can also register for accounts without necessarily having a mobile phone. They will, however, have to link the account with their simcards to allow accessing the account via the mobile phone.
Mobile Pay has partnered with Community Development Systems Ltd and Tangaza Trust to provide the mobile money transfer service.
