Mustek launch new range of Mecer devices Dennis Mbuvi

Mustek East Africa launched a new range of personal computers, laptops and a tablet based on the latest generation of Intel Core processors. The launch was at Mustek’s offices in Nairobi which also host its assembly and support centres. Mustek also announced that it will be investing Kshs 250 million to boost up its operations. The announcements were made by Mustek’s new Managing Director Corne Combrink and Regional Sales and Marketing Manager, Albert Kigada. “Our focus will be one stop service, client satisfaction and preferred service provider in the market”, says Combrink, “our repositioning in the market will see us invest over Ksh 250million in redefining the process for effective service delivery to our customers.”Combrink says the company’s business model is structured to sell via channel Partners. However, at the same time, end user awareness shall be a key focus. The resellers will have a choice of running with different brand names which are proposed by sales representatives depending on end users understanding of the products.
Musteks new products are represented in three lines which are Mecer Business Express Slate, home PCs and Business Special. The Business Express slate features a Microsoft Windows 7 based tablet. The tablet includes features such as USB ports, micro-HDMI port and optional accessories such a a docking station and physical keyboard. The Tablet will retail at between kshs 67,000 and kshs, 85,000 depending on the features and accessories.
The Home PC’S which will be initially positioned to penetrate and capture the market with an attractive price tag while the Business Special targets small, medium enterprises and high-end office users. The Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors in the Business Special range are able to support the newer DDR 3 system memory chips. The new processors are also faster with faster processor inter-connectors and faster media processor due to dedicated media processing chips. The processors are also designed to be more efficient.
Mustek will also be working on partnership programs with Intel Corporation to position its products and solutions as the preferred choice in the market. “We intend to maximize the benefits offered by the class mate PC to foster our growth through an aggressive marketing campaign and efficient customer care services”, Kigada said.
Kigada noted the new products are user friendly and this will provide an excellent opportunity for growth in the emerging markets in the East African region.
He cited competition and grey markets as key challenges facing the industry but stated that the market shall be informed of available local warranty support services for all products sourced through the right channel.
Mustek also prided itself in offering a 2 year warranty with a 48 hour turnaround time on most of their products. Customers bringing their devices for repair at Mustek’s service center would find them ready for collection in a maximum of 48 hours.
