Mobile technology surpassing use of PCs in communication Yusuf Wangara
The mobile technology has surpassed the usage of net books according to a survey conducted by TNS Research International, a global market information and insight group. Consumers have by-passed fixed communication and gone straight to mobile. The mobile phone has always been the primary communication device for the consumer. It is expected that technology will soon speed up the opening up of a new world of experiences and possibilities, signs that the mobile technology will lead the transformation.
The research showed that the market conditions faced by consumers in emerging markets, with greater price pressure and less availability of alternative technologies, push the multi-functional mobile phone up the value chain. More people, according to the survey that was conducted in 16 developed markets, will be willing to spend more money on their mobile handsets to get more services like the mobile Internet, navigation functionality and music downloads rather than spend on PCs.
Kenya, which was ranked among the countries that do text messaging more than Europe, has been using the mobile money transfer services, driving up the economy. It is said that Kenyans communicated socially via mobile phones rather than e-mails using the PCs. Poor handset design and navigation systems have also hampered previous efforts to spread mobile Internet services same as consumer education. By concentrating on delivering specific services well, opening applications stores to the best designers in the world and by mixing up flat rate pricing with some free applications, consumers feel they are getting value for money and therefore will increase their utility of the mobile phones.
