Laptop Tracking Software inclusive of insurance cover launched in East Africa Alex Owiti

A laptop tracking service dubbed UJANJA GOLD has been launched in Kenya to help track lost laptops anywhere in the world.The laptop tracking service will utilize a small and undetectable software agent, enabling the computer to report its location to a confidential and secure Monitoring Center each day it connects to the Internet.East African Data Handlers limited (EADH) the creators of Ujanja Laptop tracking solution have partnered with APA Insurance Limited to provide an ALL Risk Insurance Cover for the laptops that have been installed with the asset tracker, the product enhanced is called UJANJA GOLD.APA insurance being the largest general insurance with a premium of over 3 billion and over ten branches in major business hubs in Kenya has the capability of underwriting cover for various risks such motor, health, marine, fire,  burglary among others.

Speaking during the launch, George Njoroge ,the  East Africa Data Handlers Managing Director,said that through research the firm had identified a great need for the service. With the increase in crime in laptop theft, this service will assist in the fight against laptop theft and other serious crimes such as vehicle theft among others, the Insurance cover will seek to cover all the laptop owners that get the asset tracker and the laptops are stolen and it proves impossible to track the units.

The study also indicated that almost 40percent of laptop users have had their laptops lost or stolen, not counting the damaged units through accidents. The insurance cover will seek to cover loss by theft, malicious damage and accidental damages. The policy will be a worldwide cover.

“Laptop theft seems to be on the increase considering these hard economic times we are facing. Advancements in technology have enabled programmers to come up with software that can track where your computers are. Increasing cases of laptop theft are bound to drop significantly because of this”, said Njoroge.

In order to use the service, laptop users will need to purchase an activation code which will be retailing at KShs7, 500 inclusive of the insurance cover – an annual fee and can be purchased and installed at any of the appointed Ujanja distributors.

“We have so far recruited several distributors and agents who will sell and activate the UJANJA GOLD Tracking Software to laptop users,” added Njoroge.

Njoroge also said that the service had been on pilot project for the last five months and the feedback from the people who have used it was very encouraging.

“Its worth noting that the UJANJA GOLD Tracking Software in line with the governments target of having over a million laptop users by mid next year, this service serves to promote this initiative by enabling improved security not only for hardware but also data security, with also the increased funding for laptops we will seek to cover all this laptops” noted Njoroge.

In conclusion, Ashok Shah, the CEO of APA Insurance assured the public that genuine claims made for loss and damage of laptops will be paid promptly ensuring that the owner does not undergo further duress.

Ujanja Gold tracking solution will also seek to cover all laptop users.In case you lose your laptop or it gets stolen, and upon reporting to us with the relevant documentation, we flag the laptop, and once the person who has the laptop goes online, the software will collect location data and relay to a secure monitoring center within 15 minute intervals. This location data will be used in the retrieval of your lost or stolen laptop.
