LG Electronics Android powered smartphone, the LG Optimus (LG GT540) will be available in Kenya this June. The phone is likely to be a hit with the youth, who browse and download movies from the Internet, since it plays back quickly and without additional coding expenditure (Codex). This is because the phone has programs that allow users to watch movies directly without compressing them.

“The phone has an advanced media player that allows users to watch DivX and Xvid videos directly without separate encoding and browsing multimedia files, especially enjoyable with the 3D thumbnail gallery”, said George Mudhune, the regional Marketing Manager. The phone has a build-in-editor allowing users to add music and text to videos directly from the phone.
It has 3 Mega Pixel camera that supports geo-tagging, auto face-tagging and face-to-action technology to allow users create and share multimedia content from the phone. Mudhune said to support all these value additions, the LG GT540 will come with a long-lasting 1500mAh battery, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 2.1 capability, assisted GPS, and 32GB of expandable microSD memory.
The Android Operating System (OS) has been developed by Google, and will enable the LG GT540’s users to automatically synchronize to Google accounts once they log-in to experience YouTube, Gmail, Gtalk and Google Maps among others.
Mudhune said with easy access to more than 30,000 downloadable applications and games from the Android market, users can easily customize and expand their LG Optimus experience.
