LG through their official distributors, Hot Point Appliances invited journalists Friday morning to announce their plans for 2012, while at the same time, announcing winners for a recent raffle. more than 100 winners later, seems LG officials were exhausted as they did not mention any plans for the year, other than to give a conservative guidance based on the shrinking of European economies. That will remain to be seen, as most African countries have continued to experience growth despite global economic downturns.
Hotpoint Appliances Director of Sales and Marketing Rahul Kochhar was also excited by 2011 performance. Other than a 25 per cent increase in sales over the holidays , LCD TVs saw sales doubling, and Rahul expects the trend to continue through 2012. Best sellers were the 32 inch screens followed by 42 inch. Rahul did not disclose figures, however, insights from GfK Retail and Technology show that a total of 7,000 LCD TVs are sold per month in Kenya .

LG Electronics realized a 25 per cent leap in sales over the festive season courtesy of a two-month promotion run by its official distributors Hotpoint Appliances.
The global electronics maker expects a higher turnover this year thanks to a fairly stable shilling and a reducing level of inflation.
The festive season promotion valued at over Ksh4 million saw 133 lucky winners land a collection of high-end electronic products with the overall winner Beverly Shilunga clinching the coveted LG 55-inch Cinema 3D television.
Other top winners included Shirley Nalaneyi who won a state of the art Plasma television, George Karani who took home a side by side refrigerator among others.
During the promotion period, every Ksh5,000 spent on electronic products such as televisions, music systems, home theaters, DVD players, fridges, washing machines, microwaves, vacuum cleaners and dish washers entitled one to a raffle ticket from the participating outlet.
Speaking during the winners draw conducted at Hotpoint Appliances Sarit Centre outlet, Hotpoint Appliances Director of Sales and Marketing Mr. Rahul Kochhar said the promotion was in line with the company's commitment to rewarding customer loyalty.
"At Hotpoint Appliances and in partnership with the manufacturers of our quality products LG, we value our loyal customers. This promotion was one way of appreciating this loyalty as we look forward to another year of revolutionary and cutting-edge products," said Mr Kochhar.
He said the promotion was also used to create awareness on the importance of buying genuine products from authorized distributors to ward off counterfeits.
"The prevalence of counterfeits is high as we discovered during our free service clinics where customers bring these products to us only to find out that they are counterfeits. It is a long slow process creating awareness of genuine and counterfeit products but we are taking all the necessary steps to accelerate it," said Kochhar.
The electronics retailer also decried the current delays at the port of Mombasa saying it was negatively impacting stock movement. He said other factors which may impact sales is the global situation in Europe and other parts of the world, given our trade and other interaction with these economies.
The promotion was overseen by officials from the government's Betting Control Licensing Board (BCLB).
Over 35,000 entries were entered into the promotion that started on November 25th 2011 and closed on January 15th 2012. Over 190 LG Hotpoint retail outlets participated in the promotion.
