LG & UoN to offer air conditioners training CIO Staff Writer
LG Electronics has signed agreement with the University of Nairobi Engineering department to allow its students to improve on their skills in maintenance of air conditioners.According to Mr.Ki Wan Kim, LG Electronics CEO Middle East and Africa, the partnership will enable students from the University to access internships in the LG Air-Conditioning Academy.Speaking during the partnership signing held at the University of Nairobi, Mr. Kim said the partnership will provide a platform for students to compliment their theoretical knowledge with their practical studies as they sharpen their engineering skills.
“The Air-conditioners we are donating today will assist the students to compliment their theoretically acquired knowledge with practical skills that will be learnt through their daily practical studies,” he said.
Mr. Kim said that the demand of AC engineers was increasing exponentially around the world, but the awareness was still very low especially in Kenya and through the partnership-many students will be able to upgrade their skills on hands-on practical studies.
He noted that the existence of skill gap in the technical institutions as well as universities has contributed to poor maintenance of the air-conditioners leading to airlifting of their own engineers into the country incurring lots of expenses which later is passed onto the consumer.
Mr. Kim said the partnership will help the university produce highly skilled and competent engineers: “It is through this partnership between us and University of Nairobi that will allow students from this university to get internships and even equip them for further establishments like self-employment.”
