Kenya’s telecommunications infrastructure provider, Kenya Data Networks (KDN) has announced a partnership with Israeli wire and cable manufacturer Teldor Cables & Systems (Teldor C&S), alongside its local partner Amiran Communications, to supply and deploy a fibre optic network to be used in KDN’s new data centre.
The partnership will see Teldor C&S design, supply components, support a Building Management Systems and undertake a fibre optic network layout within the data centre. The multi-million dollar data centre, situated along Nairobi’s Mombasa Road, is a world-class data facility purposed for hosting applications and is aimed at serving both local and international businesses.
“The KDN Data Centre is designed for high-end performance and reliability. This is why we have chosen the MTP® (Media Transfer protocol) Technology,” said KDN CEO, Mr. Rikus Matthyser.

Mr. Matthyser explained that the MTP® is a Multiple-Fibre Push-On (MPO) compatible connector which provides quick and reliable connection for high density fibre cores.
The partnership comes at a time when KDN continues to improve and upgrade its services as it affirms its leadership position in telecommunications infrastructure in the region.

“On top of an excellent product from Teldor, KDN has come to appreciate Amiran’s expertise and devotion from design to successful implementation,  to the complete setup of the data centre fibre distribution, all the way to customer post sale support and Service Level Agreement,” added Mr. Matthyser.
He explained that the company’s entire infrastructure is based on Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) fibre optic infrastructure which includes:  Pre-terminated MTP cables, MTP compatible cassettes and concentration hubs, cabinets and accessories.

According to the CEO, KDN chose Teldor due to its flexibility that makes it easy to change the connection type; scalability– adding new cores and new networks segments to the data centre easily; ability to expand; Minimum Insertion Loss; ease of maintenance; and the ability to add new customers easily and make changes to customer profiles.
