KDN offers another VOIP service for its users Alex Owiti
Kenya Data Networks (KDN) is set to roll out landlines using VOIP technology following acquisition of a ‘Local loop Operator’ license from the Communication Commission of Kenya. The service dubbed ‘Izzytalk’ will enable KDN customers to make free on-net and affordable off-net and international calls. Businesses with numerous branch networks stand to benefit greatly from Izzytalk as they will be able call the branch networks for free using on-net calls. On-net call is an extension service offered on Izzytalk subscribers free of charge. Families and friends living in different countries will be able to communicate and utilize free quality service regardless of their destination.
Izzytalk users will be required to have a subscriber account which can be set on their IP Phone or terminated on their office PABX or log onto the website www.izzytalk.co.ke where they will be able to make local and international calls from the website. “This service will enable our customers to enjoy superior voice clarity and reliability at very affordable rates .the brand promise is freedom to Talk and Izzytalk lives to the promise by allowing our customers across the globe to access the service conveniently from their computers through an IP phone or though the Internet, ” said Mr. Kai Wluff, KDN chief executive officer. The service also does not depend on software installation for its proper functioning :”you don’t need to install carries voice traffic from the customer’s device and using KDN’s switching platform, route the calls to its destination. Izzytalk uses the Internet Protocol(IP) popularly known as Voice over Internet Protocol service.” Izzytalk users will be able to make affordable calls across different networks. Calls made through to mobile service providers will be charged at Sh.7.70 while calls to popular international destinations such as the US and Europe will be charged as low as Sh.2.62 inclusive of taxes. At the same time, Kai said the ISP providers were not being fair to the public as they were not passing the price cut benefit to internet users; “KDN has in the past lowered its internet charges by 90percent and quadrupled bandwidth offering for all its customers. Just this week KDN announced that it will be offering free internet, through its butterfly service for any Wi-Fi enabled device phone, laptop, PC.”
