Two Kenya Data Networks (KDN) staff and an accomplice were yesterday arraigned in a Kisumu court and charged with theft by servant and theft respectively. The three are suspected to have been collecting money from clients and not remitting the same to KDN. The suspects were later released and ordered to deposit a Ksh 50,000 (US$666) cash bail or a Ksh100,000 (US$1,333) bond and a surety of a similar amount by the court.
The two employees and their accomplice were further warned against setting foot near KDN or the firm’s installation offices. The presiding magistrate ordered the trio to report daily to the Kisumu CID offices until further notice.Their case will be mentioned at the Chief Magistrate’s court in Kisumu on Wednesday 2nd June 2010.

Meanwhile, KDN’s new CEO, Rikus Matthyser said the arrests and subsequent arraigning in court comes in the wake of customers’ complaints over service interruption despite payment for the same services. Rikus termed the incident as very unfortunate and emphasized that KDN will not allow its customers to be victims of fraud.
“This is a very unfortunate event that has affected some of our Kisumu clients, but we will ensure that this occurrence comes to a halt”, said Rikus.

KDN has endeavoured to work with law enforcement agencies to ensure culprits are arrested if there is evidence of corruption.

“KDN has a zero tolerance policy on corruption and any employee caught engaging in fraudulent activities will be dealt with according to the law”, added Rikus.
