Airtel services disrupted as fibre cable is cut CIO Staff Writer
Airtel services were disrupted in some parts of Nairobi yesterday evening following multiple cuts on the Kenya Data Network, KDN, core fibre ring which resulted in network outage. A statement from the company said customers in the CBD and western parts of Nairobi were cut off communication as a result of the fibre cut which KDN engineers are still investigating the cause. Airtel Kenya Managing Director Mr. Rene Meza apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused and said services have now been restored in most parts of the city. “Splicing at the first fibre cut location has been completed and service in Western Nairobi and CBD is now fully restored. KDN Engineers are now heading to the other cut location to restore full ring redundancy,” he said.
Mr. Meza called on the government to step up its efforts in the security surveillance stressing that such disruptions from cable vandalism are a source of great inconvenience to customers including the disruption of emergency and security services with a heavy financial burden on the service providers.
