AfriNIC conducts free IPv6 training in Nairobi Dennis Mbuvi
African Network Information Center (AfriNIC) has been conducting a free Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) training at the Nairobi Stanley. IPv6 is a new version of the system used to address network connected devices all over the world. In addition to providing newer capabilities, IPv6 is expected to replace the current addressing system, IPv4.
IPv4 has a capability to address 4,294,967,296 devices, with several million addresses reserved for other purposes such as private networks. This has seen the number of available IPv4 addresses running out with total exhaustion expected soon. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has already allocated the last IPv4 addresses to regional registries, any new requests will only be possible on IPv6. IPv6 supports 2 to power 128 or 3.4 X 10 to power 38 addresses.
The training which started on Wednesday runs till Friday and will offer hands on skills on IPv6.
