Access Kenya, publicly listed ICT Company and Kenya’s leading Data Services Provider, has expanded its own network to Kisumu, Eldoret and Nakuru at a cost of Kshs.10 million per year, keeping up with the Group’s strategy of extending its fibre optic presence to all major towns in the country. By extending their own Point of Presence (PoP) to RiftValley and Nyanza provinces, AccessKenya will now offer internet access with fast speeds and direct links to customers in the three towns and their environs. They will also benefit from AccessKenya’s high quality fully redundant network and directly interface with reliable customer service.  AccessKenya’s Group Managing Director, Jonathan Somen said the Kisumu, Eldoret and Nakuru PoPs have been rolled out to cater for the increasing demand from existing clients and potential customers.

“The PoP will enable the company to connect new clients as well as continue to provide improved and unrivalled value added services to the existing ones,” said Somen. The move is in line with AccessKenya’s fibre implementation strategy to connect all major towns in Kenya with their own Points of Presence (PoPs).The investment which will guarantee customers high speed internet access is coupled with redundancy via a nationwide fibre network.  Previously, the company provided their services to these towns through other carriers. “AccessKenya has obtained 2500MB internet capacity each from SEACOM and TEAMS undersea cables and our customers in Kisumu and Nakuru should expect complete redundancy (backup) on these fibre optic cables like all our customers in Nairobi and Mombasa.  Currently, all our customers are enjoying double speeds for the previous prices they paid with 100 percent redundancy on fibre,” said Somen. The establishment of the Western PoP is a culmination of a service improvement process that AccessKenya has been undertaking for the last five months. AccessKenya will continue to actively extend its network to all major towns in Kenya so as to offer new markets and customer data connectivity as well as managed services.  Last year, AccessKenya partnered with Tata Communications, one of the world’s leading carriers of Internet traffic, to host their Tier 1 PoP at AccessKenya’s Nairobi Data Centre providing their customers with the fastest multiple access of internet traffic through TATA’s global network.
