AccessKenya Group portal, Home in Kenya, is re-launching today complete with a new logo that has been designed to give the portal an identity that will differentiate it from the Access@Home brand. The logo is an abstract tree which symbolizes a meeting place, security, a sense of protection, growth and the tree of knowledge. This growth symbol is synonymous with the growth of the portal over the last one and a half years since its launch.
The Portal, which offers the day's top Kenyan news headlines, new articles every day on anything related with Kenyan content, Google searches, weather updates, blogs, jobs, more than 1,000 properties for sale and rent, hotel and home let listings, as well as a high-quality range of Kenyan features on health, beauty, restaurants, sports and lifestyle, has now emerged as the country's top entry point to Kenya's local Internet content.

“The new logo depicts our new and fresh approach to Kenyan content that is provided by our new editorial team and leading content partners. The new look website also provides for easier navigation,” commented Petra Somen, the Portal Manager.

The editorial team is headed by Judy Munyinyi-Mumo, a renowned editor with leading publications in Kenya like the Standard, The Star and most recently, True Love magazine.Home in Kenya is now ranked fourteenth in world rankings and is the third best-read Kenyan media website as ranked by international website ranking service, alexa.com, a web information company that keeps track of internet traffic and website usage and popularity. .  The portal has doubled its traffic in two months from 1.4 million hits in April to 2.9 million hits in June 2010.

The Portal has an interactive forum called Better Kenya in which our audience engages in subjects like infrastructure, security and culture in Kenya. It also has a section which gives our visitors a place to ask questions where to find, buy or sell things.

“Our audiences can now watch major events from the comfort of their homes as they are live streamed on the Home Portal. This year’s Rhino Charge and the Tribe Hotel’s celebration on their being nominated one of the best 100 hotels in the world, were successfully relayed via the Portal to the excitement of our audiences who could not make it to these events. The site has more video clips on events like World Cup and online Games”, says Petra.

“Our target was to draw together, from a single starting point, the very best information services the country had to offer, across multiple content partnerships, and combine them with the highest quality of information produced by our own team of in-house journalists,” added Petra
With the site's world ranking and audience now growing exponentially, the number of partners joining the Home portal also continues to accelerate.  Popular Kenyan personality Pinky Ghelani is now driving the fashion and beauty section. The country's top restaurant listings website, Eat Out in Kenya has also opened its full restaurant listings and table bookings service on the site.

Already available on the site are Healthy U, jobs from Career Point Kenya, NellyData with real-time NSE feeds, http://wazua.co.ke  the business and investment site,  more than 1,000 properties for sale from 34 estate agencies supplying content to market leader propertyleo.com ; and articles from specialist websites, such as Africa Expat and Lakuku.  The entertainment section is now more comprehensive than ever, complete with cinema listings, exhibitions, events and a kids’ corner.

As part of the re-launch activities, the Home in Kenya portal is running a promotion with Fly540.  Winners of the business quiz will win flights to Fly540’s new destinations which are Mara, Samburu and Amboseli.

“We believe that we have become the gateway to Kenya’s information and really building a portal offering more and more relevant content to Kenyans and those that visit Kenya. You learn, you interact, you have fun, you find jobs and entertainment information and on goes the list,” concluded Petra
