The second largest information and technology company in India, Infosys Limited held a two-week industrial attachment which saw twenty three Rwandan students, graduate on Friday last week.
 

This is the first time the company has organized such an internship for African students.  Infosys Limited, formerly Infosys Technologies Limited, is ranked 28th in the list of global IT service providers.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Infosys campus in Mysore, India. Among the attendees was Rwanda’s ambassador to India Mr. Williams Nkurunziza who expressed his gratitude and pride for the achievements of the students. Mr Nkurunziza has been at the fore front attracting investor support for Rwanda.  He says: “We are grateful to officials of Infosys and are looking forward to continued collaboration and pursue such initiatives and avail such opportunities to a big number of Rwanda students.”

The training was geared towards empowering the students with skills “fundamental” to any industrial sector, as well as expose them to the functioning of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. Originally, this was associated with manufacturing firms, such as Coca Cola that outsourced large segments of its supply chain. In the contemporary context, it is primarily used to refer to the outsourcing of business processing services to an outside firm, replacing in-house services with labor from an outside firm. BPO helps increase a company’s flexibility.

The internship was conducted in the world's biggest corporate training facility for IT professionals in Mysore – located 140 km from India’s Silicon Valley, Bangalore.
Infosys limited has offices in 33 countries and development centres in India, China, Australia, UK, Canada, Brazil and Japan. The company offers software products for the banking industry and business process management services and also provides end-to-end business solutions.
