LG, through its local dealer, Hotpoint Appliances has today released the LG CINEMA 3D TV in Kenya. This comes about an year since the launch of LG’s 3D TV in the market. The most noticeable feature so far is the better image quality offered by the CINEMA 3D TV.
LG has also made major advancements in its 3D glasses. Previous 3D technology required heavier and more expensive glasses that required frequent charging. CINEMA 3D glasses are lighter, do not require charging and are way cheaper at Ksh 2,000 for a pack of 6 glasses compared to previous cost of Ksh 10,000 per pair for the previous models. The newer model is not compatible with earlier 3D Tvs.
“CINEMA 3D glasses tip the scales at just 16 grams and have no electrical parts, so they are free of electromagnetic waves and never need to be recharged. The glasses’ reasonable price means viewers can buy as many pairs as they need for friends and family, while people who already wear glasses can add clip-on versions to their spectacles for greater comfort and convenience,” says LG.
A 47 inch model of the new model will be retailing at Ksh 235,000 and comes with 4 pairs of 3D glasses. The model comes to Kenya after previous launches in South Africa and Egypt where it has been performing favourably.
Other qualities of the TV include a “flicker free” certified 3D picture more flexible viewing positions and a wide viewing angle. LG says that CINEMA 3D picture is virtually crosstalk and flicker free. Via a polarized film on the screen, the set separates the picture into images aimed at either the left or right eye, which is then matched up through the CINEMA 3D glasses.
In recognition of these advances, Intertek and TUV, two world-renowned certification agencies based in Europe, have awarded LG’s CINEMA 3D TVs with “flicker free” certification, the first time in the industry that TVs have received such an endorsement. This eliminates the feelings of dizziness or eye fatigue that could occur with previous 3D TVs, meaning viewers can enjoy 3D content for longer and in greater comfort.
At the launch ceremony held at the Nairobi Laico Regency (Grand Regency) Hotel, LG also awarded one of the 47 inch LG Cinema 3D TV to Kenya National Football Team player Dennis Oliech after he emerged best player in a recent LG sponsored match between Kenya and Sudan.
