Business mobility takes centre stage at CIO Uganda breakfast James Wire

The cold chilly Kampala morning was the perfect setting for the second edition of the CIO East Africa Executive Breakfast Series to be held in Uganda. Sponsored by Samsung Electronics and Air Uganda, the event dubbed “business mobility” couldn’t come at a better time in Uganda - evidenced by the full turnout of the invited guests. In attendance was the ‘who is who’ of IT executives in large corporates, academic and government institutions.
Kicking off the sessions, Mr Steve Mwandawiro, Business Manager of Samsung underscored how enterprise mobility can improve organisation productivity, drive down costs, increase revenue and shareholder value and improve service levels in the enterprise. An overview on the award winning Samsung Galaxy tab spiced up the presentation with many left admiring this new tool of convenience.
Chris Sang, Chief Operational Officer at Virtual City – a Nairobi based value added mobile applications solutions development firm that has partnered with Samsung - delivered a presentation that was preceded by a video showing application of some of its mobile solutions in the product distribution chain. The company's core strength is in localising the mobile technology and fitting it with local content to ensure that it is suitable for the local market.
At the same event, winners of the CIO 100 2010 were awarded certificates. Thirty five of the top 100 East African companies that won awards were from Uganda, among them being the School of IT at Makerere University, specially recognised for its exemplary performance in ICT innovation in the Education sector.
The moment of truth came at the close of the event as most attendees were eager to win a new Samsung Galaxy complete with its key accessories. Lady luck smiled upon Mr. Fred Kakooza from the Uganda Investment Authority, whose card was the lucky one picked in the raffle.
Having marked such a good beginning, the CIO Executive Breakfast Series is surely headed for better times and all eyes are now on the next one due in Dar-es-Salaam in April 28.
More information on this breakfast will be published in the CIO April Magazine edition.
