Broadband commission for digital development meets in Rwanda Ruth Kang'ong'oi

Members of the Global Broadband Commission for Digital Development (BCDD) will this week attend a two day event in Kigali, Rwanda. The core purpose of this event is to draw strategies for using technology to address some of the world’s most intricate and complex developmental Challenges and to device strategies for accelerated deployment and access to broadband technology globally.
The event will be attended by the world‘s top leaders in Government, industry and the international community. The event is also expected to attract African ICT ministries, regulators as well as youth from around the world.
The BCDD is chaired by President Kagame and Carlos Slim, a Mexican Billionaire. The co-chairs of the Commission include the International telecommunications Union Secretary General, Dr. Hamadoun Toure and Director General UNESCO, Ms. Irina Bokova.
The BCDD has a mission to promote the adoption of broadband-friendly practice and polices in government, so that the benefits of broadband are enjoyed by all. The Commission believes that high speed, high capacity broadband connections is an essential element in modern society, enabling social and economic benefits to all.
At the event, President Kagame together with other commissioners will examine the current working of the commission and set the strategic agenda for the next five years. Commissioners and African policy makers are also expected to discuss on broadband opportunities and challenges faced by the youth.
