Coast Data systems and CIO East Africa yesterday hosted a breakfast at Nairobi’s  Serena hotel. The event  targeted ICT managers in various institutions including Equity and National Banks and the Central Depository & Settlement Corporation among others with the aim of enlightening them about Cyberoam Unified Threat Management (UTM) products. Among the speakers were Alkesh Soneji  and Ajay Nawani who repectively, are Business Development Manager and Technical Head of Global Operations for Cyberoam India. Others were George Kimani of Isolutions Associates and Tom Abuya of AcessKenya Group, who gave case studies.Lack of confidence in existing security products such as the existing firewall, lack of identity based visibility which identifies who in the network is doing what and with whom, lack of realtime visibility and control agent are some of the security concerns for ICT managers, according to Alkesh. Other security concerns include lack of security over existing  HTTP/SSL connections, lack of adequate end point security to safeguard the organizations data, lack of security over Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and current solutions failing to integrate with Wimax or 3G.Alkesh lists productivity concerns, those that limit the amount of an individual’s output, as loss through instant messengers, control of who is talking to who such as a worker chatting with your competitor, blocking of specific words such as  "confidential" and "top secret" in outgoing mail and lack of audit logs showing who did what e.g. who introduced a virus into the network. In a productivity survey carried out by  Cyberoam, ICT managers identified Identity management as their top concern, followed by data loss, antivirus, firewall and intrusion prevention in that order.
