On the trail of Irozho Search Engine Dennis Mbuvi
Recently, going through my Twitter posts, I found a post from Kachwanya referring to Irozho, a Kenyan search engine. So I headed up to www.irozho.com, and true to the post, there was an Internet search engine. Unlike Google, the leader with an 80 per cent market share, Irozho allows you to narrow your search into 13 categories. So I looked for the developers behind the scene, and arranged for a meeting. However, during the interview, the developers were in a hurry forcing me to cut short the interview as they rushed to handle other business.
Also during the interview, there were several inconsistencies in their story, notably the languages used (use of 2 scripts PHP & ASP- the two are rarely mixed and aren’t powerful enough for a search engine). Other inconsistencies included the short time used to develop the search engine and failure of a convincing explanation on how the search crawler works.
The developers also seemed not to have the skills required for such a monstrous task, with non having an intensive programming background. Below is their story, and a twist in the tale, a similar search engine...
