The environment is becoming ripe for potentially devastating corporate data leaks, according to Information Systems Audit and Control Association.This non-profit association of 95,000 IT professionals indicates that this threat is due to the increasingly blurred line between personal and business use of devices such as smart phones and netbooks.Inconsistent effortsTony Noble, an author of the new ISACA white paper Data Leak Prevention (DLP), notes that a large number of companies try to control sensitive information, but on most occasions, these efforts are inconsistent and not managed with an adequate level of diligence and effectiveness.Noble said each day, data travels in several forms and even after making a lot of effort, enterprises around the globe leak significant amounts of sensitive information. This eventually creates major financial and compliance risks.ISACA's white paper offers several tips to minimise this business problem and suggests businesses first create data leak prevention policies before selecting and implementing the DLP technology.
